Bubble tea, tea houses, Asian bakeries and dessert shops in this group are usually walk-in, counter-order businesses with a menu board overhead listing sweetness and ice levels you can adjust when ordering. Standard bubble tea customization includes sugar level (0-100%), ice level, and a choice of toppings like boba pearls, pudding or jelly, usually at a small extra charge. Asian bakeries sell items individually with tongs and a tray, cafeteria-style, rather than pre-boxed, and pastries are typically less sweet than Western bakery items. Lines build up quickly after school and in the evening, especially near colleges. Most of these businesses accept cards and mobile pay and skew younger in clientele and atmosphere.

Kalamazoo is in Michigan, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Kalamazoo follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. What an amazing place. The owner, Dale, is so lovely, and has such a passion for what he does. He welcomed us, and since it was our first time in, gave us each our choice of a free chocolate. There is a very wide selection of delicately made chocolates and goodies. Dale created all the recipes himself. When I asked about vegan chocolates, he personally explained all of the options to me. There are many, even some with white chocolate that he made from oat milk. Everything I have tried has been such a treat. I think my personal favorite has been a coconut caramel truffle, along with a confection of chocolate and cornflakes (yum) We bought a box of 9 for us, and then a box of 9 for my sister, . Dale gave us info on how to best store them until I can deliver them to my sister. The price was beyond fair for the quality we received. Knowing the story behind this shop makes it all the sweeter. I cannot wait to come back, I'll probably visit whenever I end up in Kalamazoo. Thank you Dale and the team 🀩

Love this place! I see their products at the local grocery store and had to find the shop! My friend described tye chocolate as something you would have with a nice espresso while sitting in a cafe in Paris. Chocolates are rich, smooth, and an absolute treat. Staff well versed in chocolate. Highly recommend it.

Went here a few days ago on a whim and let me tell you how happy I am to have stopped in. Dale was very knowledgeable of their selection and helped me and a friend pick out the best treats. Needless to say i will be taking my sweet tooth here to be cured from now on! Fair Trade and Local doesn’t get any better. Edit: just went back for the Geese which is their take on a turtle (just better) and I am hooked.

This place is pretty cool, and it’s a good cause they’re supporting. The candies they’re selling are good quality, and they have a lot of different and creative flavors. The staff treated me to a free sample since I was a first timer, and I ended up getting a box of five. It’s a bit pricey, but each chocolate was unique. There were plenty of more traditional options, but I tried several that had flavors like cayenne pepper or green tea. I enjoyed every last one. These would make excellent gifts, and I’ll have to keep them in mind for that in the future.

Always a pleasure to be back in town and visit Dale’s mission. I’ve returned to the shop once a year since I was 14 (now 25.. jeez!) and it’s consistently a family-must while visiting. It’s one of those needle in the haystack businesses that brings insurmountable joy to our family. As a NYC local, I feel confident in saying that this chocolate is the best I’ve ever tasted. Incredible chocolate and an even more incredible mission. Pleasure as always Dale… this review is far overdue and can’t express how much I love visiting. Take care, until next summer (:
